Weekly Fall Classes with Jim Himsworth
Professional artist, Jim Himsworth, will be teaching weekly classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall at Warehouse 521. Small class size allows for generous personalized instruction and guidance.
TUESDAYS: Class size: 6 students
Life Drawing or Painting from Live Model: September 3rd and 10th. Focus will be on seeing shapes and accurately drawing from the model. Students may use charcoal or paint.
Edges in Portraiture: October 1-22nd. The same model will pose 2 weeks in a row to allow time for accurate drawing, color and edge work. Students may use charcoal or paint.
Color Portrait Study: October 29-November 12. Jim Himsworth was a student of master colorist, Nelson Shanks, from Studio Incammanti in Philadelphia. Students will learn how to avoid muddy colors and create luminous flesh tones with a highly chromatic palette.
Painting Portraits from Photographs: December 3-17. Bring an image of a beloved pet, family member or friend to this class and learn how to use photographic reference to create a lasting memory and work of art. Because this class precedes the holidays it is a perfect way to create a personalized gift for someone special.
THURSDAYS: Personal Mentoring Class. Limit 6 students.
This Personal Mentoring class is one our most popular! Because artists often create alone, we can struggle to start or finish our work and solve recurring or new challenges while the paint is wet. Wouldn’t it be great to have immediate, professional guidance to help you complete your artistic project?
In this small class students work independently on their own projects and receive individual guidance from professional artist Jim Himsworth, while enjoying the camaraderie of other artists. Some students prefer to work from still life or cast set-ups, others draw or paint from personal photographs, and some prefer to learn by copying paintings from a master artist past or present. Jim is able to help students decide what the best course of action will be to take them to the next level of their artistic journey.
