Three Day Figure/Portrait Workshop July 18-20-2018
Respected painter Tom Root, known for his sympathetic portrayals of people, will lead a three-day figure/portrait workshop focused on the setting of artistic priorities in painting. Participants will work from the live model, painting directly on a toned ground and concentrating on the placement of visual shapes, the orchestration of linear rhythms and the building of form via the flow of light. Tom will discuss the atmosphere implicit in a canvas and the importance of letting forms “breathe.” Students will be encouraged to establish a hierarchy of emphasis in their work by ignoring nonessentials and heightening their sensitivity to the expression of personality and design.
