Spectacular super moon & eclipse expected for Radnor paint out this Sunday!
If the clouds cooperate, we should have a spectacular full moon for painting Sunday night! Not only will this be a “super moon” (when the moon is closest to the earth and appears larger), but there will be a full lunar eclipse Sunday night, which will begin while we are painting.
The paint out will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and painters can set up anywhere along the Dam Walkway. Most painters in the past have set up at the far end of the Walkway next to the Spillway Bridge. (Refer to the Radnor map on the Resources page.) The moonrise will occur at 6:29 p.m. and the lunar eclipse will begin at 7:11 p.m.
If you haven’t painted at night before, here are some things you’ll need to bring:
- Clip-on battery-powered LED lights to illuminate both your panel and palette. Can be a single light fixture (like a music stand light) or two separate fixtures (like book lights). You can also use an LED headlamp — e.g. use a clip-on light for your palette and a headlamp to illuminate your panel.
- A flash light for getting safely back to your car as you leave to head out of the park.
- Bug spray — just in case you need it.
You can park along the right side of Otter Creek Road (overflow parking area) close to the Dam Walkway, so you won’t have that far to travel with your gear.
Full moon paint outs at Radnor are always fun, and weather permitting, this particular one promises to be incredible. What a beautiful place for watching the super moon and eclipse unfold!
If you’re planning to attend (or think there’s a chance you may attend) Sunday evening, please email or text me (erouton@bellsouth.net or cell 615-812-0520) with your cell number to let me know. That way I can get in touch with you should we need to cancel or postpone due to weather conditions. (The scheduled rain date is Monday night.)
