Radnor Lake parking options for members with mobility impairments.

I have had a few questions recently about special parking needs for Chestnut members who have permanent or temporary disabilities, mobility impairments, or other physical conditions that would prevent them from being able to get to the Dam Walkway area at Radnor Lake to paint.

Here are two options:

  1. Except for the last two parking spots at the top of the hill (which are reserved for emergency vehicle access), any Chestnut member (with or without a disability) can park on the right side of Otter Creek Road from the West Parking Lot/Visitor Center up to the Dam Walkway in what is designated as the “Overflow Parking” area any time the Park is open, from 6:00 a.m. until dark. (See the yellow highlighted section of Otter Creek Road designated by “A” on the map below.)
  2. Any Chestnut member with a vehicle displaying a disabled license plate, placard, or decal may drive up Otter Creek Road from the West Parking Lot/Visitor Center side, drive across the Dam Walkway, and park in the turnaround area at the end of the Dam Walkway (next to the Spillway Bridge) any time the park is open, from 6:00 a.m. until dark. (See the yellow highlighted turnaround area by the Spillway Bridge designated by “B” on the map below.) Park Manager Steve Ward asks that members with disabilities park on either the right or left hand side of the turnaround area to accommodate other vehicles (e.g., ambulances, law enforcement, and park vehicles).

The Dam Walkway and the turnaround area by the Spillway Bridge are probably the most popular places for Chestnut members to set up their gear and paint Radnor Lake. Please remember wherever you set up not to block pedestrian or vehicle traffic.

If you have any questions, or have special physical access needs requiring additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Ed Routon at 615-812-0520, or erouton@bellsouth.net.
