Plein Air Painters Wanted for Polk Home Garden Tour
Beth Sands, president of the James K. Polk Memorial Association in Columbia, Tennessee, is inviting members of the Chestnut Group to paint en plein air in the Polk Home gardens or at any of the West 6th Street gardens on the 2021 Gardens of Columbia tour scheduled for June 4 and 5 from 10am to 4pm each day.
Participating Chestnut Group members are also invited to attend the Friday evening garden party reception as her guests, and are asked to bring their paintings from earlier in the day plus any other garden or landscape paintings they may wish to show and to sell at the reception. A display of work will be set up on the west porch of the “sister’s house.” In the event of inclement weather, the paintings will be on display in Polk Presidential Hall located behind the Polk Home. The Friday evening garden party reception is from 5:30-7pm in the Polk Home Gardens.
Painters are asked to commit to a 3-hour shift, Friday 10-1 or 1-4 or Saturday 10-1 or 1-4. Paintings may be sold off the easel or at the reception or in the gift shop in the weeks following the garden tour, and they only ask for a 20% donation to the James K. Polk Memorial Association, the nonprofit organization that preserves and operates the President James K. Polk Home & Museum.
