Paint Your Heart Out 2020 Registration is Open!
Many thanks to a host of talented Chestnut Members who have created a fabulous offering of instruction. There are 18 workshops to choose from this year, from April 4 to May 16, and you have 2 weeks to sign-up before they are advertised to the public. Signups are on a first-come, first-serve basis and you may take as many workshops as you like. There will be no fall series offered this year, so sign up now! As an added bonus, members will receive a $5 discount (in addition to the usual member-only discount on our Chestnut-sponsored events) if you sign up before they are opened to the public!
Remember you MUST sign in to the website before ordering to receive the Member Discount and the extra $5 off. In case you’ve forgotten, your username is your first and last name with space between them. Email us by clicking ” here” if you want help signing up.
As you scroll through the specific “To Register Go To: Workshop Link” you are choosing, you will see above the artist’s painting image the workshop title, date, time, and price-this is the non-member price! Continue to scroll through the workshop details to the bottom of the page and you will see the discounted member price, which includes the $5 additional discount for the first 2 weeks of sale. (After 2 weeks the member price will be $5 higher.) Select the number of tickets to the right of the price and click “Get Tickets” button. That will take you to your Cart. You may return to the workshop list and add more choices to your cart before going to Checkout.
In addition to making our jobs easier with reporting and management, the website purchase process means you have the benefit of a permanent record of your learning experiences on the “My Workshops tab.” This is also a handy reminder if you have forgotten whether or not you signed up. CHECKS ARE NOT AN OPTIONAL FORM OF PAYMENT.
If the workshop you want is sold out, email Rachel at chestnutnews2@gmail.com to be placed on the waitlist.

Human Gesture Painting/Drawing
Description: In this workshop, our group will be using reference photos shown via a projector. Artists may choose to paint using their preferred medium. Or, simply bring your sketch pad! We’ll paint tonally with grays only: light, middle and dark. We will zero in on the gesture of the figure and discern some important details that many artists tend to overlook.
Examples: *What is a gesture? *Is the figure’s head tilted? *What about the shoulders? *Which hip is bearing the most weight? *What is foreshortening and how do we tackle that issue? *Which details on the figure are important and which can we let fall into shadow? *Why doesn’t my painting/drawing look like the person I’m depicting?
Time: 9:30am-2:30pm
Member Fee: $70 Non-member Fee: $90
To Register, go to: Human Gesture Painting/Drawing
Location: OnTrack Studios (1978 Wilson Pike, Franklin, TN 397064)
Student Level: Some experience drawing the figure (intermediate level) preferred.
Student Limit: 12
Supply List: If you’ll be painting, please bring several of your preferred surfaces. Gamblin makes Portland Gray oil paint in light, medium and dark values. Or mix your own from the simple primary palette. Any medium is accepted. If you’ll be sketching, bring a mid sized sketch book, and charcoal or pencils and a kneaded eraser. I enjoy using Copic markers as well, just be sure to have three distinct values.
Bring your lunch if you wish.
