Paint Outs Begin and New Members Invited!
Tuesday, January 17 at 9:30 a.m. Shelby Park in Area C
We’re kicking off a full Paint Out calendar this spring that focuses primarily on Shelby Park and Bottoms since we are preparing for “The Colors of Shelby,” our next big show set for April 13-16. Shelby is the largest preserved natural area near downtown Nashville and hosts an amazing range of niche ecosystems with everything from wetlands with active beavers to towering century-old trees with nesting eagles.
The wetlands are recharged from last fall’s drought and shrouded in beautiful mists most mornings. Sevier Lake, the Cumberland River, majestic white pine trees, an elevated train trestle, baseball fields, a golf course, and many other cool man-made features are interwoven to make fascinating compositions juxtaposed among these 1200 acres of green space.
Because there are so many different neighborhoods in the park to paint, we broke it down into seven maps oriented by parking access. Sign into The Chestnut Group website and under the Resources tab, click Newsletters and Fact Sheets for the show detail. You’ll also see the orientation overview map with the seven Shelby district maps listed to navigate parking locations. (Web page: https://chestnutgroup.org/member-resources/)
Our first paint out is next Tuesday, January 17 at 9:30 in Area C. We’ll be setting up all around the Nature Center where last year’s Lockeland Springs art show was held. Judson Newbern is hosting and Todd Saal and others will be joining.
It’s a New Members Event. Getting photos and field sketching are part of this kickoff field trip.
Contact Judson at judson.newbern@gmail.com or 615-673-5393 with questions.
Be sure to check the Chestnut Facebook Page for weather updates or any last minute changes.
A full schedule of paint outs will be coming soon.
