Still Life Color Study
For the painter, color can be a friend or foe. Mastering this allusive, yet seductive artistic tool requires careful study and a lifetime of practice.
This brief introductory class will focus on seeing, understanding, mixing and, finally, painting accurate color relationships (e.g. temperature, intensity and value) from simple still-life setups. Students will learn how to effectively and efficiently mix high-chroma, out-of-the-tube pigments (see Jim’s recommended supply list) to successfully achieve nearly any perceived/desired color (relationship). There will be demonstrations and individual instruction.
Jim mastered the use of several different mediums while working as an illustrator before training at Studio Incamminati where he studied color under master artist and colorist Nelson Shanks. He uses small class sizes to ensure that he can meet each student where they are and help them grow. Students that study with Jim appreciate his thorough instruction and notice marked improvement in their ability to see color, draw and paint.
