The Power of Plein Air

The ability to paint en plein air is a crucial skill for every artist. To understand and interpret your surroundings in terms of value, form, and color without the aid of a photograph ensures artistic growth and also enhances time spent in the studio.
In this workshop, Anne will help you refine your ability to “see” in the open air. She will walk you step by step through the process of finding a subject, composing a solid foundation, and executing a successful painting in fleeting light conditions. Anne will show how she sets herself up for success from the beginning so that academics and personal expression are balanced. In her demonstrations she will share her secrets for color harmony, confident paint application, and dynamic brushwork.
Discussions will include maximizing your time outdoors, finding the best plein air equipment to make your experience enjoyable and productive, and how to use your plein air passion for studio inspiration.
Outdoor painting experience a must.
