Funds from “Art for Anton & Anton’s Art” Benefit Presented to Anton Weiss

After an incredibly successful “Art for Anton & Anton’s Art” opening night benefit and exhibition of Anton Weiss works at Houston Station Hall in early December, the funds from the benefit have been presented to the Anton Weiss Trust. Almost $18,000 was raised during the opening festivities and in the subsequent days. Anton Weiss himself arrived at Haynes Galleries to pick up the big check recently. Accompanying him were just a few of the individuals who committed their time and energy to make such a successful benefit possible. Artists Ed Routon, Annie Goetze, and Dawn Whitelaw helped recruit artists to the cause and spread the word amongst the Chestnut Art Group and overall arts community. Fellow artist Lisa Jennings, Weiss’s partner and primary care taker, was the driving force behind the event, from helping organize the logistics and digging up rarely exhibited Weiss paintings for showing to convincing artists to create original artworks to donate and so much more.

The opening benefit & exhibition was a jovial affair with Weiss’s friends & family and former students in attendance. Revered area artists were also in attendance to honor and thank the man that had committed his life to the arts in Nashville through decades of teaching and creating his own original artwork. Funds were raised through the purchase of donated original artworks by area artists, an auction of an original Anton Weiss watercolor, and the availability of limited edition fine art prints of two Weiss paintings.

The funds from the benefit will go directly to Weiss’s Alzheimer’s disease-related care.
