Friends of Franklin Parks Show a Great Success

By any measure, the “Painting the Parks” art event that wrapped up last Sunday forged exactly the kind of partnership that we strive to establish with other Middle Tennessee nonprofits that value and preserve our natural environments. This first venture with Friends of Franklin Parks (FoFP) saw excellent participation by our volunteers, sold almost $30,000 in art, and expanded our reputation into some new markets as artists who set very high standards for themselves.

As noted by Jay Sheridan, chair of the FoFP board, “I hope this can be the start to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between our organizations.” We received a great many favorable comments – people were impressed. GREAT JOB, CHESTNUTS!

Thanks to everyone!

And now for the details…

Sales totalled $28,615 which is a very solid number for the first time out in a new marketplace where we’re investing in this event to become a part of their fundraising culture. Our 61 participating artists also represented a very good turnout. In total, we sold 53 of the total of 237 paintings that were entered. Fifteen paintings were donated.
The event facility that hosted the show at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park across from Carnton Plantation was spacious enough to display the art quite handsomely. Dale Finley and his team of Staging and Storage Committee members did a super job of transporting all of our equipment, in addition to assembling and taking down the display panels and lighting. We used all of the panels that we own in organizing the space to show the artwork to advantage.
Brenda and Karen oversaw dozens of our members taking shifts to hang paintings, place labels, and then finally to work the floor to interact with visitors. Sarah Clinton, Treasurer, and Margaret Cameron assembled a trained team of volunteer members to handle the sales and transactions. A special thank you goes to Donna Brumbergs for the material she continues to evolve for receiving title blocks and creating the spreadsheets that drive our shows.
We had over 40 members who volunteered their time to contribute as part of the weekend’s slate of tasks that had been listed on the Sign-up Genius set of Volunteer Opportunities. Thanks to each and every one of you.
We again want to thank our partners under the direction of Torrey Barnhill at FoFP and board chair, Jay Sheridan, and everyone in The Chestnut Group for making this such a huge success.
