1. OCTOBER 1 – “Painting Barns” with Gaylee Levee, OnTrack Studios

In this full-day workshop, we will talk a lot about Tennessee barns! We review how to get the barn drawing right as well as painting techniques to show the age and drama of these impressive structures. You will do one drawing and one color study, and hopefully, you will get started on a larger painting. I will demonstrate the barn drawing as well as the painting techniques I use.

2. OCTOBER 4 – “Composition Critique – with wine and cheese” – Pam Padgett, OnTrack Studios

Join accomplished oil painter, Pam Padgett, for a fun evening!

Join us for a special night as we present three of America’s foremost landscape artists: Anne Blair Brown, Roger Dale Brown and Dawn Whitelaw. Having achieved master status from the top national organizations in the Fine Arts, these artists will discuss the journey’s they have taken to achieve this status The night will feature a panel Q & A with the audience.

Proceeds benefit The Chestnut Group; landscape painters dedicated to the conservation and preservation of vanishing landscapes in Middle Tennessee. www.chestnutgroup.org

5. OCTOBER 15 – “Plein Air 101– Beginning Your Outdoor Painting Journey” – Brenda Coldwell, OnTrack Studios

This class is an introduction to “plein air” painting. Whether you have tried before or have never painted outside, I will get you started and moving in the right direction. There will be an introduction with a handout, a short demonstration, and then assistance with set up and guidance with your painting the rest of the day. Supply list will be made available.

6. OCTOBER 20 – “Emphasizing Oil Painting Basics en Plein Air” – Donna Brumbergs, Shelby Park

Join Donna on location at Shelby Park in preparation for the spring 2023 art show. Students will use a split primary palette to create cohesive and well-composed painting studies. Beginning with pencil sketches for value and shape design, the workshop will cover the importance of simplifying the scene to best capture the light. Emphasizing the basics such as value, shape, and limited color, will allow students to create successful studies in the overwhelming outdoor environment. Supply list will be made available.

7. OCTOBER 21 – “Watercolors Simplified & Why They Help with Oils!” – Judson Newbern, Warehouse 521

This half-day demo will take projected images from Shelby Park and explain breaking the scenes down into shapes, layers, and values, that lend themselves to explaining each step of building a watercolor. Emphasis will be given to how capturing the notes quickly provides nice field studies and forces the eye to commit to the big ideas in the scene by reducing the chaos.

8. OCTOBER 28 – “Capturing Clouds & Captivating Skies” – Brigitte Hubbard, Harlinsdale Farm

The sky is one of the most important elements in the landscape. Learn how to best incorporate it in your paintings to support your idea. We will learn to really see and depict clouds and skies with atmosphere, touching on color, tone, value, and composition too – you’ll never look up the same way again!
