An Update from Judson

Good Evening,

Two overall areas that we are working on are :

1. Growing skillsets deeper into the organization. Such volunteering will speed up building community thru friendships which form The Chestnut’s base for growing skillsets in art…. getting involved!

We recently added a Finance Committee and a Storage & Staging Committee. Now, because the duties of the Treasurer expanded over time to include taking in the money during art shows, we are breaking out those duties under a “Lead Cashiers” Committee apart from the Treasurer’s tasks.

This role requires some training using Square. We will need a member of this committee present to preside over the other volunteers at the sales table for the half-day blocks that we envision in scheduling shifts at the sales table.

We will be listing areas where we need volunteers – so please stay on the lookout and consider emailing us your name as opportunities arise.

2. Growing Sponsors to annually support our mission. As we connect more deeply into elevating the public’s awareness in saving local resources and preserving ecosystems, we need to seek donations in the form of sponsors to post on our site and at events. We recently added The Sandra Schatten Foundation – a somewhat recent but strong local supporter of the arts and community.

We are currently looking for Chestnut members who have a banking relationship with Truist Bank (formerly SunTrust). The Chestnut Group holds its account there but our officers who register that account do not always actively bank with them. This limits their willingness to sponsor on our site. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU BANK AT TRUIST/SUNTRUST. We want a long list!

We will be posting the Signup Genius before the end of this week for the “Speaking for the Trees & Lockeland Springs Park” art show opening April 6 and running April 7-10 at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center. For new members, this is a chart where you can fill in your name in a time slot to volunteer for one of many tasks needed to make these shows the quality events for which they are recognized as being.

Thank you,

Judson Newbern
