Profile: George Khoury

Born to be an artist, George Khalil Khoury, is a Palestinian by birth, Damascus emigre, and an American painter since 1951. Born in Nazareth, Palestine, in 1939, George Khoury was always interested in art, carving small animals from soap as a child, much to his mother's chagrin. George attended Peabody College and worked with the Peabody Art Department. Art and painting always were his passion. In 1996, George received the People's Choice award from the Portrait Society of America. He also taught painting at the Tennessee Art League and Cheekwood Mansion. Khoury has commissioned works in private collections throughout the world. George accepts commissions as well as a limited number of students.
