Procreate for Landscape Painters

Class Description: The goal of this class will be to demonstrate and practice using the tools available with the iPad Procreate App that relate to the needs of the landscape painter. Ideally, the students will have familiarity with the basics of Procreate. The workshop will focus on color sampling, simplifying photo references, cropping images, copying and adjusting elements, pushing color shifts, analyzing master paintings as well as other areas of interest to the landscape painter. It is hoped that the participants will leave the class equipped with skills and a comfort level to use Procreate to enhance their painting journey.

Skill Level / Pre-requisites: Basic familiarity with the Procreate app—ability to import photographs, use some of the common brushes and be comfortable with the use of screens and layers.

Bio: Like most of the Chestnut Club members, I am not a professional artist. I came to painting late in life but years of doodling, sketching and drawing were the building blocks that enabled me to hit the ground running when I was smitten with painting. It didn’t hurt to have parents who were painters combined with a lifelong interest in art. I have had the opportunity to take both figurative and landscape workshops, have worked as a courtroom artist for Nashville and national TV and have taught drawing and Procreate classes previously. But, like you, I am primarily a student trying to get a little better every day.
