Radnor Lake Aviary Tours and Paint Out – July 13 and July 15

Radnor Lake Aviary Tours and Paint Out

Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center

(Hall Drive, off Otter Creek Rd., is a bit closer to the East Lot)

This is a very busy year for Radnor – the 50th (Golden) Anniversary of Radnor Lake State Park and State Natural Area.  Although they have so many other obligations, they have carved out some private time for The Chestnuts to see and learn about the Aviary and its’ inhabitants.  We are so honored to have Steve Ward, the Park Manager, enlighten us with two separate tours.

On Thursday, July 13th, from 10-11am*, Steve will conduct our private tour of the Aviary.

And on Saturday, July 15th, from 10-1pm*, there will be an Open House of the Aviary for the public.  Steve will be there for a short time at the beginning, but there will be other rangers covering the Open House until 1pm.  We will have the opportunity to paint in the Aviary until closing time at 1pm.

*These tours will happen rain or shine – if canceled for extreme weather, a notice will be posted to our member Facebook page.

These Aviary Tours are so special – as we watch Steve lovingly handle his feathered friends.  It’s truly an experience you will enjoy and at such a wonderful time as we celebrate their Golden year and their Golden Eagle!  We hope many of you had the chance to watch the eaglets on the NE side of the Lake as they hatched and were fed by their parents.  A few weeks ago, we were given the fortune to watch a video being made from the observation deck of the eaglets.  We think it was the day of their fledging.  It was awesome!!

We would like to have an idea of how many to expect at both these tours, but it is not mandatory.  If you know you will, or think you will, be coming, please let us know.   You may  email or call either Donna or Bitsy.

We hope to see many of you at one or both of these so special events.
