Current Events, Paint-outs and Save the Date

Chestnut Members,

It’s fall and our busy season has returned, along with better plein air painting weather.  There is exciting news and important dates coming up that I want to get on your calendars.

Cumberland River Compact Show, Our Water. Our Future.
We are looking forward to the Cumberland River Compact show next week. Many thanks to Tiffany Foss and Jane Coble for co-chairing this new hybrid show with both physical art shown over a month and an online gallery. Cumberland River Compact has done a great job of creating a Chestnut Pop-Up Art Gallery of your artworks on their website. We need your help to promote the events so, please be sure and contact those interested in your art.  You may direct them to the online gallery and the opportunity to register for the lunch and hear a presentation about The Chestnut Group, October 11, and they may peruse the other River Talks where our art will also be displayed.

On Facebook, you can share links to your Facebook contacts from the Facebook page, Friends of the Chestnut Group.

SAVE THE DATE Chestnut Group Holiday Party and New Show with Fort Houston
We have two other shows in the works! But first, SAVE THE DATE for our Chestnut Holiday Party, Wednesday, December 5. This year we will hold it at the Fort Houston art gallery and maker space located at 2020 Lindell Avenue, behind the Apple store, just off I-65 and Wedgwood. We will get started about 5:30pm and will send out more information later. Fort Houston staff will be available to give tours of the space in addition to our festivities. We will also have a month-long show at Fort Houston’s gallery, and it will coincide with the first Saturday Art Crawl on December 1, providing new eyes for Chestnut art.  This show will be an excellent opportunity to include existing work, or new work not previously shown. The only requirement will be paintings that are representative of plein air, our common theme.  More details to come on this show, which will run from December 1 to December 29.

SPECIAL PAINTOUT for The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park Show

Our spring show, to be held Memorial Day Weekend, May 23 through May 26, 2019, will be an inaugural event with the Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park.  We have been working with their enthusiastic staff to create good marketing energy around a paintout event in October where their patrons and supporters will be invited to watch you create paintings.  Thanks to Judson Newbern for suggesting this event. There are great features in the park: water, horticulture, monuments and, of course, the Parthenon.  In addition to these, there will be a first-time event called the Nashville Water Lantern Festival on Saturday night, October 20, The lanterns will be launched at 8:30 PM.  Check out the link to their website so you may get an idea of what a beautiful nocturnal painting opportunity this will be!  The paint-outs are scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 10 AM to 9:30 PM and Sunday, October 21 from noon to 4 PM.

Chestnuts are welcome to paint at Centennial Park at will during park hours.  We’ve also asked the Conservancy staff to create a handbill advertisement for the show that you may give to interested folks who approach you and ask you about your paintings. We will pass this along to you when available.  We practice the Leave No Trace as good stewards of the land.  I have asked for a map of the park, which we will also pass along to you when available, showing restrooms and features.

In addition to the Water Lantern Festival on Saturday night,  from 10 AM to 5 PM there will be a Centennial Craft Fest held on Saturday, hosted by the Conservancy,  and this should provide good subject opportunities for painting, in addition to food trucks available as a choice for your lunch.  Parking should not be difficult since there is no Vanderbilt game that weekend. You may want to carpool anyway since it might make dropping your gear off near your preferred site easier – one to stay with the gear and one to park the car. For those of you who are new to Nashville, Centennial Park is located at 2500 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.

PAINT YOUR HEART OUT  Remember there are still some great workshops open to members and non-members.  Click here for the list.
