Human Gesture Painting/Drawing
Description: In this workshop, our group will be using reference photos shown via a projector. Artists may choose to paint using their preferred medium. Or, simply bring your sketch pad! We’ll paint tonally with grays only: light, middle and dark. We will zero in on the gesture of the figure and discern some important details that many artists tend to overlook.
Examples: *What is a gesture? *Is the figure’s head tilted? *What about the shoulders? *Which hip is bearing the most weight? *What is foreshortening and how do we tackle that issue? *Which details on the figure are important and which can we let fall into shadow? *Why doesn’t my painting/drawing look like the person I’m depicting?
Member Fee: $70 Non-member Fee: $90

Supply List: If you’ll be painting, please bring several of your preferred surfaces. Gamblin makes Portland Gray oil paint in light, medium and dark values. Or mix your own from the simple primary palette. Any medium is accepted. If you’ll be sketching, bring a mid sized sketch book, and charcoal or pencils and a kneaded eraser. I enjoy using Copic markers as well, just be sure to have three distinct values.
