Class Fee: $150 — $50 will hold your space

PORTRAITS OF CHILDREN

At PlaZa Art Supplies, Nashville, TN

Much as I like to encourage people to paint from life, there are some subjects that just don’t sit still! Children and babies sometimes just have to be painted from a photo. In this course I will show you how to capture the likeness of children while keeping the painting fresh and lively. You will learn how to record those subtle skin tones and the fleeting expressions of childhood and infancy.

Thursdays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm June 7 through July 26
Class Fee: $150 — $50 will hold your space

Workshop:
THE JOY OF SEEING: PAINTING IN THE BOSTON SCHOOL TRADITION

At the Tennessee Art League, Nashville TN

“If there were a brick and mortar educational art institution called ‘The Boston School’ – the label applied rather loosely to artists who have received training from master painters whose techniques are derived from Gammell’s adaptation of French atelier instruction – then Robert Douglas Hunter would surely be its Dean. – Tree’s Place Gallery

Mr. Hunter shared with me his knowledge of accurate portrayal in still life painting, and I have added my own stamp of lively brushwork and color. You can benefit from this lineage as I share it with you.

In this workshop you will learn how to make flowers look vibrant and alive, and how to make vases and other objects look like they are really sitting on the surface — really occupying the space you have created on the canvas. You will learn how to arrange a compelling composition and how to render light and form.

Still life painting is a tremendously strong learning tool, and you will leave this workshop with solid knowledge which will help you become the artist you want to be.

This is a weekend workshop which starts on Friday October 12 at 9:00 am, Saturday October 13 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with a break for lunch, and Sunday October 14 from 1:00 pm to noon. The cost is $300 with a $100 deposit to hold your place.

Please contact Gayle Levee at 615-833-2480 for further information and to reserve your space. You may also email her at gaylelevee@fastmail.fm

Secret Gardens: Painting Outdoors

Have you ever been on a garden tour, seen the beautiful landscaping, and wished you could paint it on the spot?

Well, this spring I’ve put together a class where you can do just that! Several Nashville artists have opened up their gardens for us to share and paint.

Plein Air painting is a rewarding endeavor and one which is always evolving for an artist. Whether you have extensive experience out in the field, or are new to plein air, this course will sharpen your skills.

In addition to painting beautiful plantings around Nashville, this course will strengthen your focal point identification, the best color palette choices, and it will expand your bag of tricks in staying focused outdoors.
