Kay Keyes Farrar
An emerging artist in the Nashville area, Kay has recently opened a new studio space in historic Leiper’s Fork Tennessee. Embrace Studio is a dream come true for her – and will be a haven for painters to get together for smaller painting sessions. Open Studio is designed for artists to come & paint with no instruction, but plenty of encouragement & laughs. Small Classes are limited to 8 painters with plenty of one on one attention. Retreats for painters will be dreamed up and arranged! Where would you love to paint?? Private sessions are also available with the artist. One on one attention is key for the painter who is just starting out – so many new materials, new paint, new ideas, so many questions, Kay has the experience and patience to work with you on studies and exercises and mentor you to larger more complex paintings you have visualized.
Kay believes living a creative life is a gift as well as a daily commitment. Her earliest memories are at the kitchen table drawing, painting and creating. She has been painting for 10 years in the tradition of the limited palette, plein air and alla prima. “Art has always been an expression of spirit for me. I love color and movement, and finding the essence of a flower or landscape. I have always been in awe of the energy of the masters, Sorolla, Sargent and Schmid. Finding joy creating is something I want to share with those around me. It ‘s so enriching to watch a child with a paint brush create their interpretation of a sunflower. Or an adult, who claims she “can’t draw a stick figure” paint a wonderful study of pansies. I have been blessed to be able to share my gifts to help others find their own creative path of wonder, as well as learn from their enthusiasm and spirit.”
Kay continues her education and works daily in her studio at Embrace Studio in historic Leiper’s Fork, TN or outdoors. She teaches Basic Oil Painting to those who have always wanted to try painting, as well as intermediate painting. Her style expresses the joy and freedom she enjoys with her husband, Doug and her sons, Ian and Sean.
